The Initiative aims to build collaborative educational opportunities for medical and public health students, resident physicians, hospital chaplains, and on-going professional education based in a network of faculty mentors. Educational efforts aim to weave salient research and scholarship into standard courses, host regular lectures and *ad hoc* seminars to raise student/faculty consciousness of spirituality and health, and create a mentorship pathway to develop a cadre of experts for future leadership in the field of spirituality and health.

The Initiative also supports, advances, and connects humanities scholarship between medicine/public health and the larger academic community—including historical, anthropological, philosophical, political, and theological disciplines—that illuminates the complex, dynamic relationship between spirituality/religion, health, illness, and healing, and supports innovative approaches to alleviate illness and promote human flourishing.
